In one public place, I heard some youngsters talking about music on the cellphone. One remarked that classical music is only for old people since classic means old or aged. But one replied that classical music means class. That got me thinking. What exactly is classical music, is it about the age or is it a type of music that is not classified as modern? My take on classical music is its age but the melody is complex with chords that are not ordinary and played by a full orchestra.

Classical music pertains to a certain era when this kind of music flourished basically at the start of the 16th century. But there are subdivisions within the age like the Baroque age where Bach is mostly well known; romantic period where Beethoven flourished; and we can include the impressionistic era where French composers like Debussy's Claire de Lune played.

Any music that is not harsh but calm to listen to is what I would consider to be a classical music.

In my view classical music is a calm, soothing and pleasing music genre that is sung slowly by putting more emphacy on the music played. It was mostly sung and appreciated in the 90s.

The Classical period falls between the Baroque and the Romantic periods. Classical music has a lighter, clearer texture than Baroque music and is less complex. It is mainly homophonic, using a clear melody line over a subordinate chordal accompaniment, but counterpoint was by no means forgotten, especially later in the period. It also makes use of style galant which emphasized light elegance in place of the Baroque's dignified seriousness and impressive grandeur. Variety and contrast within a piece became more pronounced than before and the orchestra increased in size, range, and power.

To be honest, all that stuff is called classical.

Classical music is art music produced or rooted in the traditions of Western culture, including both liturgical (religious) and secular music. While a more precise term is also used to refer to the period from 1750 to 1820 (the Classical period), this article is about the broad span of time from before the 6th century AD to the present day, which includes the Classical period and various other periods. The central norms of this tradition became codified between 1550 and 1900, which is known as the common-practice period

There is a Google definition on what Classical music is but we all have a slightly different opinion on what this type of genre is. My view is that it is a sequence of melodies which brings you into your own world(heaven) where you can take time to relax and space out from the real world. I usually listen to 30 minutes of this genre before I go to bed, I imagine it helps me sleeps. Mozart is my favorite artist.
